Mikaela Testa, While vacationing on the beaches of a largely Muslim island, a scantily clad Australian influencer was reportedly requested to “cover-up.”
Mikaela Testa, 22, is famous for her hourglass body, which she flaunts in micro bikinis to her 1.6 million TikTok and 136,000 Instagram followers.
While her daring costumes may have won her fans, the people of Cocos Island were not.
“So I landed in Cocos yesterday, and the lady who owns the Airbnb where we’re staying got some calls from some locals telling her that I should be wearing something more culturally suitable because this island is primarily Muslim,” the TikTok vlogger explained.
“So today I’m covering myself to show respect, and I completely respect their requests.”
Testa is presently on vacation with her TikTok co-star and boyfriend Atis Paul on Cocos Island, an Australian territory halfway between Australia and Sri Lanka. According to the 2016 census, the little island’s population is 75 per cent Muslim.
In her daily vlog, Testa is shown wearing a brown scarf over her head and shoulders and a skin-tight maxi dress as she describes the problem to her viewers.
In Muslim culture, it is common for women to be compelled or opt to cover their entire body in public except for their hands, face, and feet.
Testa did not appear to object to the residents’ wishes, but some people still commented on her social media posts, accusing her of not doing enough — with others pointing out that her dress was skin-tight and featured cutouts that highlighted her hips and cleavage.
“‘I’m covering up to show respect,’ says the woman. Mikaela, too, wears skin-tight clothing. “Girl, please stop, you’re not being respectful,” Natalia, a commenter, remarked.
“What are you talking about, you didn’t mention anything,” commented user Osama937. “She wasn’t referring to your hair at all.”
Most of her fans, on the other hand, seemed to appreciate her endeavour to hide the truth and please the locals.
“Why are people hating so much, especially people who aren’t even Muslim?” I’m a Muslim, and I thought it was quite courteous of her to cover up as much as she possibly could!” Saba, a TikTok user, made a post.
“At the very least, she’s attempting to be respectful.” “She certainly isn’t totally aware of everything in the culture,” one user observed, “but she’s making an effort to respect locals,” while another added, “Thank you very much for demonstrating respect.”

“I admire how you honoured their requests and did the best you could to conceal the situation.” “As a Muslim myself, thank you,” said one supporter.
This isn’t the first time Testa’s social media posts have gotten her in trouble. In 2019, Testa attracted a lot of flak for releasing a tearful video — which went viral — denouncing Instagram’s decision to stop showing “likes.” “At the very least, she’s attempting to be respectful.” “She certainly isn’t totally aware of everything in the culture,” one user observed, “but she’s making an effort to respect locals,” while another added, “Thank you very much for demonstrating respect.”
