My Satellite Unleash Psychedelic Opus ‘Person’

Flaunt Weeekly

LA outfit My Satellite have shared their new album ‘Person’ in full.

The group formed in 2009, blending indie rock song structures with some wicked psychedelic effects. At times a full-on lysergic experience, My Satellite also know when to go for more immediacy, often embracing pop melodies in the process.

Sometimes compared to Tame Impala or even the UK’s own Glass Animals, My Satellite pivot between punchy, dynamic songwriting and structures that are more open.

New album ‘Person’ continues their journey, a song cycle structured around a relationship, and how it evolves over time. Playing with concepts of time, perception, and story-telling, it ricochets from perspective to perspective, allowing the story to unfurl gradually.

Packed with thrills, ‘Person’ spotlights the sheer abundance of colour in My Satellite’s music. Introducing the record, the LA band comment…

About two years after the release of our last album ‘LIFT’, we were looking to take our sound somewhere new and uncharted for us. We set out to make the psychedelic album that we would want to listen to – an album that would impact others in the same way that Stevie Wonder, Radiohead and Tame Impala albums have us.

One that put importance on the perfect bass line and drum groove, was incredibly maximalist at times, wasn’t scared of being too much or too bizarre, and most importantly was a singular work of art that is more than the sum of its parts. We spent eight years writing, tweaking, rewriting, mixing, and remixing to get to a final version that we are immensely proud of.

‘PERSON’ is an unpredictable, psychedelic ride about the birth and death of a relationship with all its highs and lows. It is a journey that, much like a relationship, leaves you intact yet somewhere different from where you started.

Tune in now.
