New chair for Amey
Lord Moynihan takes over as Amey chairman from former Balfour Beatty boss Ian Tyler, who had the role since 2018.
The announcement follows the recent acquisition of Amey by One Equity Partners and Buckthorn Partners. Moynihan is also chair, and a partner, of Buckthorn Partners.
Since his time as Margaret Thatcher’s sports minister – on the basis of being a double Oxford blue, in boxing (bantamweight) and rowing (cox) – and then an energy minister in John Major’s government, he has developed business interests in the energy sector. He served as chairman of the UK Renewable Energy Advisory Group and was the first president of the British Wind Energy Association.
“It is a crucial time to be joining Amey as the company looks to bring its expertise in transport and buildings infrastructure to bear on the UK’s net zero ambitions,” he said. “I am looking forward to working with the leadership team and offering my support as they realise the future vision for the business.”
Amey chief executive Andy Milner said: “We are at an important turning point for the business, and Colin’s wealth of experience in both government and business across numerous sectors will help us realise Amey’s potential. I would also like to thank Ian for his contribution as chairman since 2018, particularly through the sale and transition.”
