Tems wins her 2nd Grammys award

Nigerian singer Tems clinched her second Grammy, winning the Best African Music Performance category for her hit single Love me hehe.

This track, released on April 26, 2024, is a reimagined version of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic, blending contemporary Afrobeats with nostalgic elements.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Tems expressed profound gratitude:

“Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage,” she remarked, also appreciating her managers and team. Tems’ mother joined her on stage, receiving a heartfelt acknowledgment.

The Best African Music Performance category was notably competitive, featuring a lineup of distinguished Nigerian artists:

  • Burna Boy – “Higher”
  • Asake & Wizkid – “MMS”
  • Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay – “Sensational”
  • Yemi – “Tomorrow”

Tems’ victory underscores her rising prominence in the global music scene and highlights the increasing influence of Nigerian artists on the international stage.

This win marks Tems’ first solo Grammy award, following her previous Grammy recognition for her collaboration on “Wait for U” with Future and Drake.

The 67th Grammy Awards not only celebrated individual achievements but also showcased the rich tapestry of African music, with Nigerian artists leading the charge and solidifying their place in the annals of global music history.
