“Nope” by Jordan Peele earns $6.4 million in previews at the box office.

The director of “Get Out” works with “Get Out” star Daniel Kaluuya again in the original sci-fi horror movie.

Sci-fi horror movie by Jordan Peele Universal says that Nope’s Thursday previews brought in a strong $6.4 million at the box office in North America.

With Get Out in 2017 and Us two years later, Peele changed the way horror was done. This time, the creative director adds science fiction to the mix.

In Nope, Peele reteams with Daniel Kaluuya, who played Chris in Get Out. Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun play people from a small town outside of Los Angeles who try to record a strange event involving an unidentified flying object.

Peele also wrote and co-produced the Universal movie through his Monkeypaw Productions, which he also used to direct it.

Nope wants to open in the U.S. with $50 million, which would be the best start for an original studio film since 2019 and keep the summer box office on the rise this year.

Peele’s second Universal horror movie, Us, opened to a record-breaking $71 million in 2019. His first movie, Get Out, which he directed and was a big hit, opened to $33 million in 2017 and went on to make more than $255 million worldwide on a small $4.5 million budget.

Us made $7.4 million on Thursday night, and it ended up making more than $255 million around the world. This was another win for the studio and the director.
