Nothing has previously introduced the Nothing Ear 1 wireless earphones, which were met with mostly positive reviews at the time. To compete with the $2 trillion behemoths that are Apple, however, a firm must first establish an ecosystem of goods, with the new Nothing 1 phone aiming to be at the hub of that network.
In addition to the talk’s content, which we covered in our Nothing event live blog, there was some humour as well. Carl Pei set out his company’s mission of making more “human” goods and serving as a genuine alternative to Apple’s “closed” environment in his keynote address. Additionally, Pei took a veiled swipe at Samsung, implying that although Apple’s goods function well together, things fall apart when you attempt to use them with devices from other businesses.
So, certainly, I’m looking forward to something completely different. And the Nothing Phone 1, which is expected to come this summer, might be just that. However, this “The Truth” event seemed to be little more than a bunch of hooplas.
Even though the live YouTube feed began with a bizarre set-piece that parodied something that many of us think is futuristic, there were only around 15 minutes of genuine material. Furthermore, it waited until about the 22-minute mark out of a total of 27 minutes for the worst tease ever to appear.
Pei claims that the Nothing Phone 1 is a hoax “Everything about the design is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Allow me to demonstrate.”
After hearing such a sentence, you may expect Nothing to show you the Nothing Phone 1 after making that statement. We only see an array of flashing lights, a dot matrix pattern, and a sequence of forms that seem to be a language spoken by extraterrestrials.
I get what you’re trying to say, It doesn’t seem like anything is intended to elicit excitement. There have also been some interesting speculations and hints that it may be working on a transparent design, akin to the Nothing Ear 1 wireless earbuds, which would be very exciting. We just get a promise: “Trust me, it’s breathtaking.”
The Nothing OS, which is clean and contemporary with a nostalgic flavour, provides us with a true look at some of the software aspects of the project. You may adjust an analogue tape animation in the voice recorder app to rewind and fast forward, for example, and a dot-matrix weather widget is included. By learning from your use and keeping the applications that you use the most in RAM, nothing also offers smooth performance.
None of this, on the other hand, is enough to pique my interest in the Nothing1 Phone. Not for the time being, at any rate.
Nothing’s emphasis on creating an ecosystem of goods, rather than simply the items it manufactures, intrigues me much. The collaboration with other firms to make the devices we use more compatible with one another will be non-existent.
But, as far as the Nothing 1 Phone is concerned, please get back to me when you have anything more meaningful to say on the matter.
