London musician Oscar Jerome has announced his new album, ‘The Fork’, out April 4th via New Soil.
Jerome shared the opening track ‘Desert Belly’ late last year and today he continues to flesh out his new era. Below you can preview the brooding title track and a short film that illuminates the chimerical, self-interrogating themes at the heart of the album.
Of his new album, Jerome says: “’The Fork’ explores the challenge of letting go of the self, letting go of the individual and the ego. Allowing yourself to be at one with nature, at one with the cycle of time, life and death, connecting on a deeper level with others and with existence. Allowing yourself to wholeheartedly trust, love and learn. The music presents some things I have reflected on or learnt along the way and I hope some people will listen and relate or reflect within themselves.”
‘The Fork’ is the first record that Oscar has entirely self-produced, honing a sound that owes as much to folk artists John Martyn and Joni Mitchell as it does to Prince and early Carlos Santana. It begun as a challenge Oscar gave himself to make tracks by sampling his 2022 album ‘The Spoon’, building them into completely new songs – a literal reflection of his growth between the two albums.
Hailing from Norwich, Jerome’s formative years of musical training were shaped by a stint at London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Refining his craft as a member of eclectic collective GROWTHthe multi-instrumentalist set out to fuse the contrasting textures of hip-hop, soul, jazz and funk into a dynamic, homegrown amalgam.
Oscar Jerome recently announced a headline across the UK and Europe, including a night at SCALA in London. Tickets are available here.
