Pixel 7 and 7 Pro appear in a video from early manufacturing, leaving us in the dark regarding battery size.

This is a millimetre and milliamp-hour guessing game.

We believe that it goes without saying that different Pixel phones are unique. They differ in terms of appearance, measurement, and perhaps even behaviour. There are a lot of ways Google’s impending Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro won’t be the Pixels that came before them, but since we’re purportedly waiting until October before they officially go public, there aren’t many ways we can tell them apart right now. We do, however, have a greater understanding as a result of YouTube’s influence.

In particular, Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy conducted on-camera testing on what are allegedly early developer units for both models. We have little reason to doubt that these devices are what they are claimed to be. Despite this limitation—the phones cannot run bootable software—we still have a lot of minor details to notice.

A glance at the bootloader menus revealed that the Pixel 7 our host was holding has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, compared to the Pixel 7 Pro’s 12GB of RAM. This is in addition to all the peeping around the bezels, the selfie camera punchout, and the in-hand feel.

Hilsenteger also took some choice measurements from each device and found that there was a somewhat meaningful reduction in size between the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 7 — the former had a measured width of 74.9mm (Google officially pegs it at 74.8mm) and a mass of 205 grams while the latter came in at 73.2mm and 195 grams. Even while the Pixel 7 Pro is slightly wider and a hair’s width thinner than the Pixel 6 Pro, the Pro models ultimately weigh about the same. The two phones are both smaller than their forerunners. Even though there is a small margin for error, this is about being close, especially when we date it back to May and early rumours connected to CAD renders.

But I imagine many will be curious about the 10-gram differential between the Pro models and how it would affect the size and lifespan of the battery. The Pixel 6 Pro’s 5,000mAh battery only provided “good-not-great” longevity during our tests.
