You may not have heard much about Hunt Showdown 1896but you really should have. It’s an atmospheric, unsettling team shooter where the objective is to kill a monstrosity (I still have nightmares about the spider) and get out while other teams do the same.
You know who is playing it? Platinum-selling musician Post Malone, who claims he’s probably racked up around 400 hours in the tense FPS. In a new partnership, Post Malone will make his debut in Hunt Showdown 1896, with in-game lore details including a Dime Store Novel dubbed ‘The Ballad of Post Malone’, and developer Crytek is promising even more to come.
According to the ‘novel’, the in-game version of Post Malone was a wandering musician who began to amass a following until he became head of a touring carnival.
“The circus followed the roads, going wherever he wanted. It got a bit of a rep, too. A little dirty, a little dangerous, and while he’d always come out to sing and make the ladies swoon, in the back alleys behind the tents there’d be darker stuff going on,” it reads, hinting at further plot developments to come.
As for the man himself, he sat down with the developer for a Q&Adiscussing how he got into the game. “My buddy got me into it,” Post Malone explained. “Whenever I’m on the road, and I can’t play, I’m always missing it. I’ve got probably about 400 hours on it.”
“I love how it’s based and grounded in reality. Very quick time to kill, you can body somebody in one shot. The guns are so sick. The skins are so sick. And I was like alright, I’m gonna give this a go. And then I used necro for the first time and I was like – this is the best game!”
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is an upgraded version of the base Hunt: Showdown title, and comes from Crytek – the developer behind the Crysis franchise that was a true benchmark setter for PCs in the 2000s. As you’d expect, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a genuinely stunning title. It’s out now on PS5Xboxand PC.
