Postponing Hogwarts Legacy until 2023

Aspiring witches and wizards will have to wait.

 

The release date for the open-world adventure game Hogwarts Legacy, which takes place in the Harry Potter Wizarding World, has been moved up to 2023 from its initial holiday 2022 schedule. Hogwarts Legacy will now launch on February 10, 2023, according to a Friday announcement from the game’s publisher Warner Bros. and creator Avalanche Software.

 

Warner Bros. posted on the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account, “The team is delighted for you to play, but we need a bit more time to create the best possible game experience.” The Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy does not have a new release date, it was also emphasized that the new date only pertains to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions of the game.

 

 

A hundred years or so before Harry Potter enrolls, Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s. The player character is a rookie wizard or witch, but they enroll at Hogwarts as a fifth-year student, where they will learn sophisticated magic skills including conjuring spells and casting them, establishing friends, and dealing with rivals and dark wizards.

 

Hogwarts Legacy was not created by J.K. Rowling, even if it fits into the overall Harry Potter canon. Following Rowling’s outspoken and transphobic views about gender identity, Warner Bros. Games immediately disassociated the Hogwarts Legacy project from her.
