Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Plus are “much lower than projected,” which indicates that Apple’s decision to forego the “small” in favour of a larger version of the new phone was a mistake.

The low number of preorders for the iPhone 14 Plus, according to a well-known Apple analyst, speaks poorly of Apple’s business plan.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will be in stock when they go on sale, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, indicating minimal demand.

The smaller iPhone 13 mini is replaced by the larger iPhone 14 Plus in Apple’s updated lineup.

The pre-orders for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, indicate that the company’s product-segmentation plan has failed.

Apple unveiled the new iPhone 14 series last week. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max go on sale on September 16 after going up for presale on September 9. On October 7th, the iPhone 14 Plus will become available a little later.

Apple hasn’t said how many units have been pre-ordered. To gauge how demand changed, Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities who has a solid track record of foreseeing future Apple developments, looked at early indicators of pre-orders for the company’s current iPhone lineup.

In a noteworthy shift from the iPhone 13 base models, which were only offered in regular and “small” device sizes, Apple decided to offer the base model iPhone in standard and bigger “Plus” versions.

He claimed that the results for the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Pro are “excellent” and “neutral,” respectively, when it comes to availability and shipment estimates. The two regular models, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, have “poor” pre-order numbers, according to Kuo.

Kuo stated on the iPhone 14 Plus that “this new product’s pre-order result is significantly lower than predicted, implying Apple’s product segmentation plan for standard models fails this year.”

Prior to publishing, Insider contacted an Apple spokesman for comment, but they did not provide one.

When the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus go on sale, according to Kuo, there will be stock at retail locations “demonstrating weak demand.

“According to Kuo’s study, both phones are exhibiting lower pre-order trends than the iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 13 mini, and the estimated delivery times for the iPhone 14 and 14 plus are shorter than those for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini.

Apple would likely reduce shipping predictions for both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus starting in November, according to Kuo, if demand for the devices doesn’t increase. If so, Kuo warned that it might affect the company’s sales growth.
