Rema has opened up for the first time on how he felt after he lost the Best Global Music Album category at the 2025 Grammys.

Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema, recently faced a setback when his acclaimed album ‘HEIS’ did not secure the Best Global Music Album award at the 66th Annual Grammys held in 2025. Despite the loss, Rema’s response has been one of unwavering determination and optimism.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the popular singer revealed that he didn’t really mind losing the Best Global Music Album category to Matt B and the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as according to him, he enjoyed watching people walk up the stage to collect their awards, hoping that it would be his turn, and when it didn’t happen, he accepted his fate.

He said in the interview, “I was just taking every moment in, I was celebrating people walking up that stage. I had my fingers crossed that I’d walk up the stage too, and when it didn’t happen…it happens. It’s not the first award that I got nominated for and didn’t get”.

The Grammy night was bittersweet for Nigerian artists, as other nominees, including Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake, also missed out on awards. However, Tems brought glory to Nigeria by winning Best Melodic Rap Performance for her feature on Future’s ‘Wait For U’, marking her second Grammy win.
