It’s official: “Lift Me Up,” the debut track from Marvel’s critically acclaimed follow-up “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” marks Rihanna’s long-anticipated comeback to music.
The song was written by Tems, Ryan Coogler, Rihanna, and Ludwig Göransson as an homage to Chadwick Boseman’s life and work. It will be made available on Friday, October 28 in advance of the movie’s Nov. 11 theatrical debut. There isn’t much information available regarding the style and sound of “Lift Me Up,” despite Rihanna briefly teasing the song’s melodious hum on social media.
“I wanted to compose something that depicted a warm embrace from all the individuals that I’ve lost in my life after chatting with Ryan and hearing his vision for the song and the movie. In a statement, Tems stated, “I tried to picture how it would feel if I could sing to them now and tell them how much I miss them. “To hear Rihanna perform this song is a huge pleasure because she has been an inspiration to me.”
Lift Me Up is being released by Rihanna’s own Westbury Road label in collaboration with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records. On November 4, the remainder of the soundtrack for the film will be made accessible.
Working with Rihanna is a major victory for Marvel after getting Kendrick Lamar and SZA to write “All The Stars” for the first “Black Panther.” According to a press release, the song “ushers in the next era of Rihanna’s renowned career.” The upbeat tune, which played over the film’s closing credits, received multiple Grammy nominations in addition to an Oscar nomination for best original song. (When “Lift Me Up” will appear in the sequel is unknown.) In addition to Göransson’s original score, the initial “Black Panther” album also included songs from Schoolboy Q, Vince Staples, Jorja Smith, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, and Khalid.
Boseman, who portrayed King T’Challa in the first “Black Panther,” passed away at the age of 43 from colon cancer. The leaders of Wakanda are the main focus of the sequel as they struggle to deal with the passing of their monarch and defend their country from interfering international forces. The movie also stars Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, and Angela Bassett.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is anticipated to be another box office success like the first film. Early projections indicate that the film will bring in at least $175 million on its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest openings of the year. The first “Black Panther” debuted in 2018 to $202 million and went on to earn $700.4 million domestically and $1.3 billion internationally. It’s expected that the sequel’s global box office will surpass $1 billion as well.
In addition to financial success, “Black Panther” made history as the first superhero film to be nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards. Although “Green Book” won the overall award, it won Oscars for costume design, soundtrack, and production design.
The information highlights Rihanna’s triumphant return to the music industry, which will continue in February 2023 when she headlines the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show. The 2016 publication of Rihanna’s most recent full-length album, “Anti,” marked the passage of more than half a decade. Since then, the young mother has grown her resume as a successful businesswoman and amassed wealth thanks to her lingerie label Savage x Fenty and cosmetics company Fenty Beauty.
Many were surprised by her halftime performance appearance given her protracted songwriting break. She has, however, made cryptic remarks about two separate albums over the years (and has been pictured entering and exiting studios), with one of them being characterised as being close to dancehall. However, information about a full-length, solo Rihanna studio album is still hard to come by.
In the near future, Rihanna will stage her fourth annual Savage X Fenty fashion show, which will include performances by Anitta, Burna Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell. In addition to other well-known faces including Angela Aguilar, Avani Gregg, Bella Poarch, Cara Delevingne, and others, the event will premiere exclusively on Prime Video.
