Several viewers were angered by Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime performance at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, earlier this month.
According to TMZ Sports, the Federal Communications Commission received 103 complaints regarding the Super Bowl LVII broadcast, virtually all of them were about Rihanna’s halftime performance.
Many of the complaints suggested Rihanna’s lyrics and performance were “far too sexualized,” according to TMZ Sports.
“I don’t care what someone worships, but children should not be exposed to pornography, and I don’t want to see it as an adult,” one viewer remarked. “… What happened to decency? What about respect for others and for oneself?”
The majority of the criticism was directed toward Rihanna’s backup dancers. According to TMZ Sports, several viewers felt the dancers made “patently disrespectful and absolutely improper for children” gestures.
Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime performance was her first live performance since the 2018 Grammys, and the bulk of the reaction was good, with LeBron James, J.J. Watt, and Donovan Mitchell applauding the event.
