Samsung’s latest Bixby version renders Google Assistant obsolete.

Bixby now allows you to utilize a personalized wake phrase.

Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa are three of the most popular voice assistants, and they are the ones you are most likely to interact with on a daily basis. Bixby is also available on the finest Samsung phones, but the Korean conglomerate hasn’t upgraded its voice assistant with significant enhancements in quite some time. That’s about to change, as Samsung has announced a huge Bixby update that will make it smarter and perform better owing to an on-device mode.

Samsung is expanding Bixby Text Call to English, taking inspiration from Google Pixel’s Call Screen. The feature debuted with One UI 5 in October 2022, however, it was only available in Korea. Bixby Text Call now functions in English on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 4, Flip 4, and other devices with the release of One UI 5.1. When you’re on the phone, you can type what you want to say, and Bixby will convert it to audio and play it back to the caller.

With the custom voice maker option, you can change Bixby’s Text Call voice. It allows you to record different sentences so that the voice assistant may analyze them and construct an Artificial version of your voice and tone. This option, however, is now only available in Korea, with the company hoping to expand the AI-generated voice capability to other Samsung apps in the future.

Furthermore, Bixby is gaining support for a custom wake-up phrase, allowing you to record and use your own hot word.

By recognizing context and remembering prior talks, Samsung’s voice assistant is becoming smarter. According to the business, you can begin a Samsung Health workout and then tell Bixby to “play music for this workout.” This will result in the virtual assistant providing music that is appropriate for your workout.

Finally, thanks to on-device AI support, Bixby can detect and process commands even when no internet connection is present. This contains simple operations like capturing a screenshot, setting a timer, and so forth. Bixby’s on-device mode only supports English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Korean.

Samsung said it will begin spreading out these Bixby enhancements to Galaxy customers through a software update in February 2023.
