A Scottish DJ has said she was sexually harassed by audience members during her performance at Hong Kong’s Clockenflap music festival, accusing security staff of failing to intervene despite complaints.
Simone Murphy, better known as Sim0ne, said a group of men at the front of the crowd were making obscene hand gestures throughout her set on Saturday at the three-day festival, which was held at the Central harbourfront.
She said the seven or eight men appeared to be under 20 years old.
“It was really distracting … they were holding up like super sexually explicit messages on their phones and waving it at me,” Murphy said in a clip posted to her social media account on Sunday, adding that Clockenflap was her largest performance on her Asia tour.
The Edinburgh-born Murphy, a 31-year-old former model, is now based in London and was named as one of “dance’s future stars” for 2024 by BBC Radio 1.
She has also gained an increasing global reach with her residency at Rinse FM, a London-based community radio station.
