The legacy of the late Vusi Ma R5 remains intact.

THE legacy of this late bacardi star lives on.

Musician Itumeleng Mosoeu, who was famously known as Vusi Ma R5, died in February 2023 after being gunned down.

Vusi Ma R5 is remembered for his significant influence on the bacardi music scene.

The youngsters he invested time and energy in will continue to provide a lifeline for their families through the careers he helped to build.

The The Little Ones hitmaker discovered and nurtured township talents, including Jelly Babie, Phindy Maphendola, Matenas, and Nelly Mawaza, among others.

Phindy (26), a Tshwane-based artist and one of Vusi’ Ma R5’s proteges, told Daily Sun about his impact on her career.

“Vusi Ma R5 had a huge impact on my life because I’m where I am today because of him. Everything I have is because of him. We started together, and he was always there for me, guiding me,” said Phindy.

She also spoke about how life has changed since Vusi Ma R5’s death.

“A lot has been happening. I’m pushing forward, releasing new music, and working on a reality show called Rekere. I didn’t let Vusi’s passing stop me. I chose to continue making music so people can recognise and appreciate bacardi music,” she said.

Phindy revealed exciting new projects, including a mixtape and a collaboration with BET award-winning singer, Makhadzi.

“Bacardi is growing slowly, and I’m happy about that. Seeing people finally embrace our music means a lot because there was a time when no one wanted to give us a chance. They thought bacardi music was bad, but now they’re playing our songs and even featuring us in their own,” she said.

The impact Vusi Ma R5 had is still felt, not only through the artists he helped raise but also through the ever-growing popularity of the genre he championed.

His influence continues to shape the bacardi music scene.
