Death Row Recordsan iconic musicfounded in 1991, is launching its very own weed brand. Owner Snoop Dogg is at the helm of the new project.

The brand is called Death Row Cannabis and its inaugural product will be cannabis flower. More hints about the new weed offerings are featured in a teaser video on the brand’s Instagramproduced by MylarMen with a soundtrack by Kevin Gilliam aka DJ Battlecat. Diamond-infused pre-rolls will also be among the products in the Death Row Cannabis lineup. The packaging is an iridescent silver with gold accents, and it will showcase a redesigned version of the brand’s prisoner logo, but with one difference— his left hand is free, holding a joint.

Death Row Cannabis

Death Row Records has played a massive role in hip hop and cannabis culture over the last three decades. It has sold over 40 million albums nationwide since its inception and has evolved into one of the most well-known labels in the hip hop world, especially when it comes to advocating for the cannabis plant. Since its founding, Death Row has been home to many famous cannabis smokers in pop culture including Tupac Shakur, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, and more, alongside its founders The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, Michael “Harry-O” Harris, and Dick Griffey. While he was signed to it in 1992, the label was officially acquired by Snoop Dogg in February of 2022.

The cannabis brand isn’t Snoop Dogg’s first foray into the weed biz. Snoop Dogg was in fact one of the first celebrity-endorsed weed brands in the country when he launched a brand called Leafs by Snoop back in 2015 to the Colorado market. “Since I’ve been at the forefront of this movement for over 20 years now, I’m a master of marijuana,” Snoop told the Denver Post at the time. It was a collaboration with Canopy Growth Corporation and sold exclusively at LivWell dispensaries. Leafs by Snoop has ceased to operate for a few years now and the cannabis community waited patiently to see what Snoop Dogg’s next move would be in the industry. The wait is over.

What about the weed? Death Row Cannabis says its offerings will be for craft connoisseurs, with cannabis cultivated by AK, a legendary West Coast grower who was personally brought on by Snoop Dogg to lead the cultivation for the brand. AK is best known in the cannabis world for his role alongside former partner WizardTrees in sprouting, selecting, and crafting unique phenotypes of strains including RS11, Studio 54, and Shirazi from exotic cannabis breeder DEO.

AK’s work speaks for itself. He is the current VP of Cultivation for TRP LLC, the company that owns a majority of the Cookies stores across the nation including major outposts in Florida. AK is also the man behind the cult beloved cannabis brand SMKRS. His reputation for growing exceptional, high-quality weed and his palette when it comes to selecting winning strains has created a massive and veracious following in all of AK’s projects. Death Row Cannabis will be no exception.

Death Row Cannabis will be on shelves in the California marketplace, to start, beginning the first week of 2023. The exact date is to be announced soon by the brand on social media. Consumers can expect to find the brand on shelves at Cookies retail storefronts in Brentwood, San Bernadino, and San Diego, with more locations to come. The brand also says it’s eyeing more states and marketplaces to enter as the year progresses, so keep your eyes peeled.
