Nigerian singer Tems has expressed her gratitude to veteran musician Seyi Sodimu for his role in clearing the sample of his 1999 classic hit Love me hehewhich she used in her Grammy-winning song of the same title.
Tems, who won the award for Best African Music Performance at the 67th annual Grammy Awardstook to her official X page to thank Seyi Sodimu for his support. She described his original song as a “timeless classic” and appreciated him for allowing her to sample it.
“I just want to thank the wonderful @seyimusic for his role in the support and clearing of his OG song Love me jeje,” Tems wrote. “It’s brought the original song back to life for me and I’m glad that it’s getting its flowers today. A timeless classic. I appreciate you so much. Thank you for your love and support.”
Seyi Sodimu responded to Tems‘ appreciation post, praising her as a “special kind” and expressing his pride in her achievement. “Thank you Princess. You are a special kind. You deserve it and more. The best is yet to come. So proud of you @temsbaby,” he wrote.
Tems’ win at the Grammy Awards has been widely celebrated in Nigeria and beyond, with many praising her talent and dedication to her craft. Her appreciation of Seyi Sodimu’s contribution to her success is a proof of her humility and respect for her musical heritage.
