Tragic details about Naomi Judd’s death have emerged.
An autopsy report obtained by Page Six on Friday from the Nashville medical examiner’s office confirms Judd committed suicide after being discovered “unresponsive in her home by family” at 10:57 a.m. local time on April 30.
The document also states, “She had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to Williamson Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.”
The gunshot “perforated through the right side of the scalp and entered the skull through an entrance-type gunshot wound,” according to the autopsy report.
Given her public battle with mental health, Judd’s cause of death was suspected to be suicide within days of her death.
The toxicology report, which was also provided by the Nashville medical examiner’s office, revealed that the 76-year-old musician was on several different drugs at the time of her death, including those used to treat insomnia, anti-disease, Parkinson’s depression, and seizures.
According to the medical examiner, the award-winning country musician also had “what appears to be the words’suit case'” written in “faint pen ink on the palm of the left hand.”
According to the doctor, Judd had a medical history of “significant” anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic idiopathic pneumonitis, hepatitis C, hypertension, and hypothyroidism.
According to the report, “the decedent had prior suicidal ideations and recent life stressors,” according to the family. “A weapon and a suicide note were discovered near the decedent at the scene.”
Ashley Judd confirmed on “Good Morning America” that her mother committed suicide and that the actress was the one who “discovered” her body.
“She wielded a weapon.” “My mother used a firearm,” the 54-year-old “Double Jeopardy” contestant told Diane Sawyer in May. “So that’s the piece of information we’re very hesitant to share.”
Judd’s surviving family members filed a request earlier this month to keep her death records sealed due to the “graphic” manner in which she died.
