The Chicks will resume touring in 2022 after a hiatus: ‘The ultimate payout is the live concert,’ they say.

The Chicks are coming to town, as the multi-platinum-selling female trio prepares to return to the major touring circuit for the first time since 2017.

The Chicks Tour, which will begin in June and go through August, was announced by the 13-time Grammy-winning trio on Monday. Tickets will go on sale on Friday.

“I was continually visualising playing all of those songs on tour as we were creating the ‘Gaslighter’ album,” band member Martie Maguire said in a statement. “For us, the final payout is always the live show.”

The Chicks, along with sisters Emily Strayer and Natalie Maines, released their critically praised “Gaslighter” project in 2020. Despite the effort — their first studio record in over 15 years – the coronavirus outbreak effectively ended any prospect of touring from state to state.

This summer tour will begin on June 14 in St. Louis and will include dates in Chicago, Toronto, Boston, and Charlotte.

The Chicks Tour, which includes Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Patty Griffin and indie rocker Jenny Lewis as openers, will also visit Los Angeles and Denver for two nights at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

“The first several minutes of every concert is what I miss the most about travelling,” Strayer said. “The house lights go out, the audience roars, and the opening music blasts through the PA.” I believe we’ve all lost the opportunity to connect through live music!”

“The majority of our fans are aware that we are die-hard Patty supporters,” Maines said in a statement. “We saw her at The Ryman back in 1998 and haven’t left her alone since!” She was our opening act on our first headlining tour in 2000, and we have covered more of her songs than anybody else.”

The band officially changed their name in June 2020, which was also reflected on its social media profiles, which went from @dixiechicks to @thechicks. “We want to meet this moment,” The Chicks wrote on their website at the time. The name Dixie refers to Southern United States states, particularly those that were part of the Confederacy.

The year 2020 also marked the first time the group recorded a song after a 14-year sabbatical following the 2003 outcry that effectively ended their career.
