The ‘Community’ Reunion Film Is Heading to Peacock After Six Seasons

As the cult-favorite sitcom keeps its promise to fans, the majority of the main actors (Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong) will return to Greendale.

Into Peacock unveiled plans to recreate the popular sitcom as a feature film with the majority of the original ensemble, Community is finally delivering on its promise of “Six seasons and a movie.”

In addition to series creator Dan Harmon, Community: The Movie will also reteam Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.

NBC broadcast Community from 2009 to 2013, a show about a group of students at a community college with a range of ages that soon gained a cult following and rave reviews (albeit low ratings).

The phrase “Six seasons and a movie” has its origins in a scene from an unrelated episode of Season 2, but it eventually evolved into the official hashtag of Community’s devoted fans when the programme concluded.

The Greendale gang is reunited now, seven years after the sixth and final season of Community was shown on Yahoo! Screen, however without a crucial trio of co-stars: For Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, who left the show around Season 5, as well as Yvette Nicole Brown, who only had a part-time role in Season 6, school is still in session.

When the actors performed a pandemic-era virtual table read for charity in May 2020, it fuelled fans’ hopes for a wider reunion on the movie front. Glover, who is undoubtedly busy with a tonne of his own projects as both himself and Childish Gambino, and Brown both did so. Glover expressed interest in playing Troy again at the time, but he didn’t think a Community movie would be approved.

Glover added, “We can’t create movies right now. Now as I’m watching it, I think, “Oh, this show is so punk. extremely provocative and punk-like. We had a great time, and now I want to rewatch this show as if it were brand-new. Unfortunately, Glover and Brown were left out of Friday’s announcement by Peacock.

Peacock has also acquired the complete 110-episode run of Community for the streaming service in addition to the movie. The release date for Community: The Movie has not yet been determined.

According to Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, “‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a sarcastic quip from Community’s early seasons and rapidly inspired a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious, and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy.” We are so appreciative that, 15 years later, we can give the fans the movie they were promised.
