A demo clip for Motive and EA’s eagerly anticipated Dead Space reboot has finally been released. The video clip somewhat confirms your expectations. The story of Isaac Clarke’s terrifying mission to the mining ship USG Ishimura is being told in a well-known way, but with far better graphics and audio that make greater use of contemporary gear. Still cutting off Necromorphs’ limbs and floating through zero-gravity areas, but with ominous volumetric lighting and more convincing, situation-appropriate audio.
Thankfully, it’s not nearly a rehash. There is a better sense of a plot that centres on the struggle for sanity and learning what happened to Isaac’s girlfriend Nicole now that Isaac isn’t as mute as he was in the 2008 version. In some ways, the reboot offers the chance to improve Dead Space rather than merely cashing in on its reputation.
For PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on January 27, 2023, the revived Dead Space will be launched. While it isn’t a brand new game like fans might want, this preview suggests Motive is at least delivering what you’d expect from a remake: a modernization of graphics and gameplay that’s still true to the experience that drew people in the first time around.
