When the second season of Ghosts debuts, it’s set to have you roaring with ghoulish hilarity. And this time, a well-known visage from the other side of the ocean is ectoplasmically present.
This witty zombie series from last year was among the crop of new programmes demonstrating the viability of the network sitcom. Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar play the endearing newlyweds Sam and Jay Arondekar in Ghosts, which is based on the UK series of the same name. Sam and Jay are planning to build a bed and breakfast when they are met by eight ghosts who want to keep their haunting territory to themselves.
Sam has a near-death experience that gives him the power to communicate with spirits. As a result, antics happen, friendships are forged, and most importantly, jokes are told. Many of them. Ghosts has exactly the kind of low-stakes, effervescent fun that has otherwise been drained out of television when combined with one of the cosiest TV casts.
More backstory on the ghosts, such as that of Danielle Pinnock’s stylish jazz singer Alberta and Román Zaragoza’s Lenape storyteller Sasappis and Victorian dowager Hetty, is promised for this season. Ambudkar told EW at San Diego Comic-Con, “Everybody here has a pretty meaty tale that goes into their past.”
We learn about Alberta’s background as a singer and actress in Danielle’s amazing flashback, which Ambdukar and Wisocky both commented on.
