The first Galaxy S23 design leak reveals a largely unremarkable appearance [Gallery]

In the months leading up to the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, a fresh leak is giving us our first glimpse at the look of Samsung’s flagship.

We now have our first glimpse at Samsung’s flagship design for 2023 according to the new CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S23+ that @OnLeaks and SmartPrix have tweeted. On the one hand, this leak reveals the first significant redesign by Samsung since the Galaxy S21, but it also reveals a somewhat unremarkable appearance.

These renderings suggest that the Galaxy S23 will forgo the single camera hump on the back of the phone in favour of more rounded frame corners. Instead, the camera sensors would be in separate bumps, akin to the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s five camera cutouts. A location for an LED flash is also included on the right side of those cameras.

Although it’s obvious that Samsung is attempting to harmonise the Galaxy S series’ designs with the appearance of this year’s most popular model, the result is a design that, in our opinion, appears terribly generic. This design lacks distinction, but the Galaxy S22 series’ distinctive camera bump design helped it to stand out a little.

The Galaxy S23+ will measure 157.7 x 76.1 x 7.6mm, somewhat larger than the Galaxy S22+, according to this report. The phone is somewhat broader and taller, but the thickness has not changed. It’s odd that the renders don’t show a SIM tray, although this could just be a typo. Android isn’t ready for smartphones that exclusively accept eSIM, despite Apple’s commitment to the technology in its most recent iPhone models.

Along with the S23+, @OnLeaks also provided Digit with CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S23. The renders show the same basic design and once again confirm a slightly bigger size of 146.3 x 70.8 x 7.6 mm for the device which is expected to have a 6.1-inch display.

Early in 2019, the Galaxy S23 series is anticipated.
