The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more durable than rival OEMs’ rigid phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is one of the most durable foldable smartphones on the market, with only the Galaxy Z Flip 4 being able to compete. The new book-like foldable phone is made of Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the outside and UTG on the inside, with an Armor Aluminum frame holding it all together. The hinge has been redesigned but remains as strong as before. And, despite the lack of an IP rating against dust, the device can withstand a handful of pebbles and nasty particles, as demonstrated by a new JerryRigEverything durability test.

JerryRigEverything’s durability videos, as most of you are probably aware, go above and beyond, and they’re essentially torture tests for new mobile devices. Phones will almost certainly never go through what they are going through in JerryRigEverything’s mad scientist lab, so any device that survives to the end deserves some recognition.

So, how about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4? How does this new foldable Samsung phone fare in the JRE? Actually, quite well!

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more durable than rival brands’ rigid phones.

It may be difficult to believe that a foldable device can outperform a ‘candy bar’ flagship phone in terms of build quality, but the Galaxy Z Fold 4 does just that. Although scratch resistance is nearly identical to last year’s model, the new phone passed JRE’s sand test with flying colours. Moreover, despite the thinner hinge, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 was nearly impossible to bend, even when pushed from the weakest side opposite the hinge.

If you don’t think these results are impressive, especially for a foldable phone, consider that some rigid flagship devices, like the OnePlus 10T, can’t pass the bend test without breaking in half. While Samsung works to improve the durability of its devices year after year, build quality for other OEMs appears to have taken a back seat, which contributes to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 being a surprisingly durable phone.
