The Google Pixel Fold may outlast Samsung’s battery life.

In the folding smartphone market, Samsung is likely to encounter some serious competition.

 

It’s time to start thinking what the Google Pixel Fold will look like when it’s finally announced. Samsung is currently Google’s most significant hardware opponent in the Android space, and the South Korean corporation is also the undisputed leader in the foldable hardware category. Therefore it’s not shocking that the next Pixel phone may be a book-style foldable with a larger battery and broader frame than Samsung’s Z Fold 4.

 

9to5Google has heard that the Pixel Fold is heavier due to a larger battery pack spliced into it. It will have a battery capacity of roughly 5,000 mAh, which is larger than Samsung’s 4,400 mAh. In terms of overseas foldables, it will be larger than the Oppo Find N2, the sister phone to the Find N2 Flip I previewed last week.

 

It would be good to see a foldable with a longer battery life in the works. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has some of the lowest numbers in our benchmark charts because it is a 2-in-1; when opened, the Z Fold is essentially a 7.6-inch tablet powered by a smartphone-sized battery. In comparison, a mid-range Samsung Android tablet of comparable size has at least a 5,100 mAh battery.

 

The Pixel Fold may also be a little heavier than the Z Fold 4, which might be intriguing in terms of durability. The Z Fold 4 is a much more pleasant experience now because it’s not as heavy in the hand—you can technically hold it up in bed like a book or an e-reader, though it still stings when it falls on your face. There are currently no weight specifications available. The majority of this speculation stems from the device’s larger battery.

In its summary of the claims, Google also includes an intriguing diagram. The Pixel Fold’s dimensions were revealed in December by OnLeaks, which has a strong track record with these minor parts. The Pixel Fold, according to the mockup, will be wider than the rather small Z Fold 4. While this is yet to be confirmed, it’s worth considering because, as foldables become more widespread on the market, people will choose a smartphone based on whether they prefer a broader or thinner body. It’s not dissimilar to the current smartphone size warfare. To be honest, I’d want to see a bigger Samsung foldable that’s simpler to paw at while closed up in phone mode.

 

Google’s Pixel Fold journey has been going on for quite some time. The business apparently suspended development on a prototype of the unannounced foldable in 2021, and then again in 2022. We’re keeping an eye on the fresh speculations because we were told a few months ago that something will be announced in May, when Google has its annual developer conference. Let’s wait and see!
