The Indian Consumer Affairs department may have leaked critical information about the upcoming iPhone 14 ahead of Apple’s September 7 event. As the Cupertino company prepares the new phone, the possible model number of the next iPhone was spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
MySmartPrice discovered that the Bureau of Indian Standards is now listing a new iPhone model number ahead of an iPhone announcement.
The iPhone XR (A2105), iPhone 11 (A2221), iPhone 12 (A2403), and iPhone 13 (A2403) are currently listed by the National Standards Body of India under the Department of Consumer Affairs (A2633). It now displays a new model number A2882, possibly for the upcoming iPhone 14 series.
This makes sense given that Apple is reportedly manufacturing the iPhone 14 in both India and China at the same time. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst, suggested this in an article earlier this month:
According to my most recent survey, Foxconn’s iPhone production facility in India will ship the new 6.1′′ iPhone 14 almost simultaneously with China for the first time in 2H22 (India being one quarter or more behind in the past).
In the short term, India’s iPhone capacities/shipments remain significantly lower than those of China, but it is an important milestone for Apple in developing a non-Chinese iPhone production site.
It implies that Apple is attempting to mitigate the effects of geopolitics on supply and sees the Indian market as the next key growth driver.
While the regular iPhone 14 is expected to retain the same design and processor as the iPhone 13, Apple is preparing a Max version with a larger screen and battery but without the premium price.
All of the new features, on the other hand, are expected to be added to the iPhone 14 Pro versions, which will have a new design, a new processor, and upgraded cameras.
