In his horror films, Mike Flanagan normally avoids jump scares, yet in “The Midnight Club” on Netflix, he defies all conventions.
The first instalment of Flanagan’s most recent series, which she co-created with Leah Fong, just broke the record for the most scripted jump scares in a single television episode.
Netflix now has “The Midnight Club” accessible for streaming.
The episode that won the award, “The Final Chapter,” clocks in at 21 jump scares in quick succession over a story that is heavily J-horror inspired. A Guinness representative gave a certificate for the achievement to Flanagan and his creative team.
I thought, ‘We’re going to do all of them at once, and if we do it well, a jump scare will be rendered worthless for the remainder of the series,'” Flanagan said in a statement to Deadline. It will only be destroyed. Kill it until it is dead at last, but that didn’t happen. They said, “Great!” More [frights]!
The eight members of the Midnight Club gather every night at midnight to share ominous tales and search for evidence of the paranormal from the afterlife at a manor with a shadowy past, according to the television series.
Together with Fong, Flanagan is adapting Pike’s stories for “Once Upon a Time,” and Flanagan also directed a few of the episodes. The new series’ other directors, though, are not only him.
The complete list of directors for “Midnight Club” on Netflix additionally consists of…
Emmanuel Kuffour Osei (Black Box)
Axelle Carolyn (Creepshow, Bly Manor)
