Bandai Namco opened today’s State of Play with a first peek at Tekken 8, the newest entry in the venerable fighting game series.
In the brief teaser clip, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama were shown squabbling on a rocky cliff. Jin was able to instantly transform into his Devil form and deliver a powerful punch. During the conflict, enormous storms rage behind the combatants, while tornadoes rage in the sea below.
All of the “character models, backgrounds, and effects” that can be seen in the teaser, according to Tekken executive producer Katsuhiro Harada’s article on the PlayStation Blog, are all in-game materials. The scene was taken from the story mode of the game, but the site claims that what is seen is representative of what players will see during a combat.
Despite the fact that it was taken from the story mode, Harada claims that it is real-time rendered footage that is running at 60 frames per second, much like how you would experience the game in vs battle modes.
The announcement comes after a brief tease that was displayed during Evo 2022 in August, when a single picture of Kazuya’s face and the words “Get ready” were displayed following the Tekken 7 Grand Finals.
No specific release date or timeframe was provided with the trailer, meaning Tekken 8 will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam at some point in the future. The brief clip does not show any other characters.
