world-best-bars-2022

The top bars in the world for 2022 have been identified.

Leave London behind. Move over, New York. The world’s best bar, Paradiso, is located in Barcelona, making it the new epicentre of the cosmopolitan cocktail.

Since the list’s inception in 2009, the top slot on the list has never been held by a bar located in New York or London.

Owners Giacomo Giannotti and Margarita Sader’s Mediterranean-style speakeasy, Paradiso, is located in Barcelona’s hip El Born neighbourhood and is accessed through the freezer door of a pastrami bar. The bar rose from third place in 2021.

“Winning is both a great honour and a great responsibility. We’ll put out a lot of effort to uphold our reputation as the best and uphold our values. Our drinks aim to encourage creativity, “Giannotti revealed this to 50 Best on Tuesday night.

“But it all boils down to effort. As you put in more effort, you learn more and become more creative. After we celebrate, we’ll return to the bar and carry on as usual.”

It was the first time the celebration was conducted outside of London, and the 50 Best awards were revealed on Tuesday night in Barcelona.

Three of the top 10 bars on the 2022 list are located in the dynamic city of Catalonia. Sips was the “highest climber” in 2018, rising from position 37 in 2021 to position 3 in 2018. Two Schmucks ranked seventh.

Four bars from Spain made the top 50, with Salmon Guru in Madrid coming in at number 15.

The top 50 bars in 2022 featured a significant representation from Italy, with establishments in Rome, Florence, Milan, and Naples all making the cut. The southern city of Naples entered the top 50 for the first time thanks to newcomer L’Antiquario Napoli, which took the No. 46 position.

Florence and Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, also earned their debut appearances on the list.

Despite losing the #1 spot, London remains one of the most popular cocktail locations in the world. The Connaught Bar, which had been ranked No. 1 for two years running, was one of five London pubs to make the list and fell to No. 8 in 2022.

Tayr + Elementary in London, which award show host Mark Sansom referred to as “one of the most inventive bars on the planet,” kept its No. 2 ranking from 2021.

More top bars than any other region were found in Europe.

650 bartenders, bar owners, drinks journalists, and cocktail specialists cast votes to create the list.

Added large winners
After a less impressive performance than usual in 2021, New York came back to claim the title of city with the highest-ranked bars in 2022. Six of the top 50 bars are located in New York, including Double Chicken Please at number six and Katana Kitten at number nine.

Due to its impressive debut, Double Chicken Please was given the prize for Highest New Entry. According to Sansom, the content director of The World’s 50 Best Bars, the establishment has “an almost Michelin-grade kitchen,” which is just one illustration of the growing importance of food programmes at the top bars in the world.

Sansom claimed that No. 33 Manhattan serves “really, seriously enhanced bar food” in Singapore as well.

With four bars in the top 50, including No. 4 Licorera Limantour, winner of the Best Bar in North America title, Mexico City is another North American cocktail capital.

The Alquimico in Cartagena is ranked No. 10 for Best Bar in South America. The list includes one bar in Lima and three bars in Buenos Aires.

In Asia, the top 50 bars included two each from Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. Jigger & Pony in Singapore, which came in at No. 12, was named the Best Bar in Asia.

Three bars from Dubai appeared in the top 50, including Zuma at No. 38, which was named the Best Bar in the Middle East and Africa for the third consecutive year.

New Delhi’s Sidecar rose 21 positions to No. 26 in India.

Maybe Sammy, ranked No. 29 in Sydney, is the best bar in all of Australasia.

What is currently available to guests in bars
Customers are more inclined to stay there since the pandemic has limited barhopping, according to Sansom, so bars are increasing their food offerings while also providing more live entertainment to keep customers entertained for hours.

And there is a blurring of the distinctions between food and alcohol.

Sansom, referencing New York’s Double Chicken Please once more, claimed that “the methods and flavours associated with food and gastronomy are developing in beverages and cocktail craft.”

The bar’s Back Room menu offers a variety of food-inspired drinks, such as Japanese Cold Noodle and Waldorf Salad (whisky-based with apple, celery, ginger ale, and walnut bitters) (rum-based with pineapple, cucumber, coconut, lime and sesame oil).

The theme of Two Schmucks in Barcelona is also influenced by flavours found in food.
Its Curry Colada is arguably one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had, according to Sansom.
In the last few decades, equipment like the centrifuge found its way from research labs to restaurant kitchens, and in the last ten years, it has also surfaced in artisan cocktail bars, he said.
And at many bars, notably the top bar in the world, Paradiso, unique glasses that sometimes inspire the drink rather than the other way around are becoming more and more essential.
Excellent hospitality is more essential than ever now, according to Sansom, after the last several years.

Since the epidemic, bars have become much more conscious of the worth of each individual patron and how to make them feel welcome, secure, and wanted when they enter.
