The trailer for “I Am Groot” is out, and the show has been given five more episodes.

After Baby Yoda’s long reign, a new young alien is about to take over Disney+. The first trailer for “I Am Groot,” the animated spinoff of “Guardians of the Galaxy” that stars the one-word space hero, was shown at a Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con on Friday.

The panel also said that after the first five animated shorts come out in August, “I Am Groot” will come back with more episodes at a later time.

Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby made Groot for the 1960s comic book “Tales to Astonish.” Vin Diesel gives him his voice in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Groot is an extraterrestrial space creature who is known for being kind and friendly. Groot is very smart, but he can only say “I am Groot” at any given time. Those who are close to him, especially his regular partner in crime Rocket Raccoon, can understand what he means, though.

Groot made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” In that movie, he sacrificed himself so that his son, “Baby Groot,” could take his place. Baby Groot grew out of Groot’s body as a sapling. “I am Groot” will show Baby Groot’s adventures across the galaxy when he’s not with the Guardians. He’ll meet new people and get into dangerous situations. Diesel came back to do voiceovers for the series, and Bradley Cooper will do Rocket Racoon’s voice again. Other characters are also expected to come back.

Each of the five animated shorts will look at a different part of Groot’s childhood. In the teaser, Groot fights with a military group of small blue aliens, but he saves them when a lead he farts out turns out to be a food source for the colony. Groot is also seen exploring a huge spaceship, dancing with a gelatinous copy of himself, and putting on moss clothes in other clips.

“I am Groot” is the second animated MCU show to debut on Disney+. Last year, “What If…?” was the first. Ryan Little made “I Am Groot” and writes the series. He worked on “What If…?” as a script coordinator and writer. Kirsten Lepore is the director, and Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and James Gunn, who directed “Guardians of the Galaxy,” are among the executive producers.

This year, there will be more “Guardians” spinoffs than just “I Am Groot.” “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” which was filmed while making “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” will be available on Disney+ in December.

All five shorts from “I Am Groot” will debut on Disney+ on August 10. Below, you can see the full trailer for the show.
