In the wake of the Queen’s departure, the royal family appears to have set aside their dramatic interpersonal dynamics, but it appears that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been “uninvited” from a banquet at Buckingham Palace, leaving sources close to the couple “baffled.”

 

According to The Telegraph, international leaders and foreign royals will attend King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla’s state reception at Buckingham Palace on Sunday night—the night before the Queen’s funeral. Meghan and Harry “appear to have been uninvited” to the event.

 

The Sussexes were sent an invitation earlier this week, but they were then informed that only “working members of the royal family” were permitted to attend. It is still unknown “why they had received an invitation for an occasion that Royal aides swore they were not expected to attend,” according to The Telegraph, and insiders close to Harry and Meghan were “baffled” by the whole mix-up. Palace staffers continue to “insist that they were not invited and were not expected to turn up,” in the meantime.

The reception is reportedly going to be a “muted affair,” and attendees are being requested to wear “lounge suits or morning dresses” as they enjoy beverages and canapés. Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex will all welcome them.

 

According to The Telegraph, there have generally been some misunderstandings over Meghan and Harry. Most recently, it was said that Harry was informed he couldn’t wear his uniform to the Queen’s final vigil. However, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William were allowed to attend in uniform by King Charles, and a palace source said that “at the King’s request, they will both be in uniform.” According to a different source, “common sense has won. Given that the Duke of Sussex has served his nation and is a highly regarded soldier due to everything he has done for veterans, the situation seemed absurd. It is crucial that all of the Queen’s grandchildren feel at ease and at home as they mourn their cherished grandmother together.
