TJ Maxx slashes merchandise with the Yeezy brand amid the Kanye West controversy

TJ Maxx has joined the growing list of businesses cutting ties with artist and designer Ye in response to a slew of antisemitic comments, the retailer said on Wednesday.

The choice comes after similar actions by Gap and Foot Locker to remove Yeezy products from their stores. Gap claimed that YeezyGap.com had also been shut down. Adidas and Ye, who officially changed his name from Kanye West, parted ways on Tuesday.

“At TJX, we do not accept any form of hatred, harassment, or discrimination. We have told our purchasing departments not to buy this product for any of our locations worldwide, the company stated in a statement sent by email to CNNBusiness on Wednesday.

Popular off-price retail businesses TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Marshalls are run by TJX (TJX) Companies.

Because they purchase unsold or excess inventory from suppliers and retailers, including premium labels like Gucci, Chanel, and Prada, they have grown in popularity in the present inflationary market.

There will probably be an excess of Yeezy-branded goods with nowhere to sell them when more retail chains announce that they will stop carrying them.

Even the exclusive world of private sales and auction houses has been affected by the consequences.

The private sale of a rare Nike Air Yeezy 1 prototype that Kanye West wore to the 2008 Grammy Awards was being handled by Christie’s, however the auction house said that it will no longer go on with it.

In a private Sotheby’s auction in 2021, the sneaker last traded hands for $1.8 million, according to a report.

A Christie’s representative said on Wednesday, “We are not selling any of this material and do not have any plans to do so.”
