Khloé Kardashian politely declined her baby daddy Tristan Thompson’s offer to pay for their daughter True’s fourth birthday party. And it appears that these two do not communicate well.
Khloé throws her daughter a “pastel”-themed party in what appears to be her backyard in season two, episode seven of Hulu’s The Kardashians, complete with giant balloons, a hair-braiding station, a bunch of kittens, slime, and lots of pretty desserts. The Good American designer is clearly proud of the event she organised, as evidenced by the numerous photos she took of the birthday girl with party supplies.
Kardashian, who is showing her party planner Mindy Weiss pictures on her phone, reveals, “Her dad got her this diamond necklace, and I’m like, Oh my God,” before explaining that he is only absent due to an NBA game.
“I’m not sure if having Tristan here today would add more stress to me,” she says to the camera. “We get along great as parents, but I haven’t seen Tristan in person since before Christmas.” True was born in April, so the six-month gap she’s referring to is accurate.

“I’m not sure if I’m supposed to tell you this or not,” Kris Jenner says upon arrival. “Tristan called.” And he said that he went ahead and took care of the entire party privately.” Khloé simply responds, “That’s nice, but I’m not going to let that happen,” but Jenner insists, “You should, he was so excited to do it.” “And I’m so excited that I could do it all by myself,” Kardashian says. Both women walk away smiling after another back-and-forth.
“I work extremely hard to create elaborate things for True, and I don’t need anyone’s help,” Kardashian says to the camera. That’s great, but I’m sensing drama beneath the surface. Did Thompson call Jenner because he wanted to keep the payment (to Weiss?) a surprise, or are he and Kardashian feuding? How are they coparenting when they haven’t seen each other in months? Perhaps the nanny handles the switch-off, or perhaps Thompson is as involved as he can be given his schedule, while Kardashian handles everything on her own. Which is essentially a form of coparenting… But, once again, I detect tension.
This season, Khloé Kardashian has repeatedly demonstrated disinterest in the press, as well as frustration and anxiety about what has been written about her. Given what’s going on in her personal life, this is understandable. So, Khlo, if you’re reading this, the party was adorable. And I’m glad your child’s father adores her. Enough to cover the cost of a party. A diamond necklace, too!
