Tyrese Wants Joint Custody Of His Daughter And No Spousal Support During Divorce

According to documents from the singer’s divorce hearing on Monday, Tyrese does not want to pay spousal support to his ex-wife Samantha Lee. Tyrese also requested that the couple’s prenup be enforced, as well as joint physical and legal custody of their three-year-old daughter, Soraya Gibson, during the court appearance. After four years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2020, citing a disagreement in which Lee claimed the Grammy-nominated singer locked her out of the house.

Despite his denial, Tyrese accepted responsibility for his role in the divorce, saying that “being raised in broken homes with no example of what being a husband or father is” contributed to the failure of his second marriage. During the hearing on Monday, the “Stay” singer claimed that Samantha’s request for $20k in monthly child support was “unreasonably high,” adding that he wants to keep the couple’s 2016 Range Rover while Lee keeps their 2017 Land Rover Discovery.

Tyrese is not the first person to face a public custody battle. From his two-year marriage to Norma Mitchell, he currently has joint custody of his 15-year-old daughter Shayla Somer. Tyrese has had an on-again, off-again relationship with 25-year-old influencer Zelie Timothy since his divorce from Samantha. Over the summer, the singer publicly apologised to Zelie for publicly airing their relationship problems online, saying, “I publicly came at you [you definitely posted with some choice words towards me first]… But my words were harsher and more hurtful, and I’d like to publicly apologise to Zelie for that. Soon after, the social media influencer forgave the 43-year-old star.

Tyrese stated in a statement that he and ex-wife Samantha will “remain the best of friends and strong co-parents.”
