Vampire Diaries is no longer available on Netflix; here’s where you can watch it now.

It’s bad news for Netflix subscribers who keep The Vampire Diaries on repeat.

 

The long-running supernatural drama, which aired on The CW from 2009 to 2017, is no longer available. All eight seasons (and 171 episodes) are now available on HBO Max and Peacock as of Sunday, September 4, 2022. (sign up here).

 

The Vampire Diaries first appeared on Netflix in 2011, as part of a deal between Netflix and The CW in which full seasons of CW shows were made available on Netflix eight days after their season finales. However, in 2019, The CW’s parent companies, WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS, decided not to renew the agreement, instead saving their original series to bulk up their respective streaming services, HBO Max and Paramount+.

 

The output deal required that each CW show licenced to Netflix remain exclusive to Netflix for five years after their final seasons were added to the service — and The Vampire Diaries’ move to HBO Max (and Peacock) comes a little more than five years after its 2017 series finale.

 

The Originals (which aired for five seasons and ended in 2018) and Legacies (which aired for four seasons and ended in 2022) are still available on Netflix as of this writing. They’ll most likely transition to HBO Max in 2023 and 2027, respectively.
