Tom Brady has discovered his next assignment after leaving the NFL.
The 44-year-old former New England Patriots quarterback will star in and produce “80 for Brady,” a football-themed film.
And he’s got some serious celebrity backing him up as he embarks on his next phase.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field will all appear in the Paramount Pictures film.
“80 for Brady” is based on a true tale and follows four closest friends and New England Patriots fans (Tomlin, Fonda, Moreno, and Field) as they go to the 2017 Super Bowl to witness their favourite quarterback — who happens to be the actual Tom Brady himself.
As the four buddies go on a cross-country road journey to see Brady play in the big game, chaos and laughter are unavoidable.
Kyle Marvin will helm the road trip comedy, which he co-wrote with Michael Covino.
Production will begin later this spring, with no definite release date.
Brady confirmed his retirement from the NFL on February 1st, putting an end to several long-running speculations. After 22 seasons, three MVP titles, and seven Super Bowl championships with the Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the athlete announced his retirement.
“I have always thought that football is an ‘all-in’ proposition – if you don’t have a 100 per cent competitive dedication, you won’t win, and success is what I love so much about our game,” the father of three wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
“There is a physical, mental, and emotional challenge every single day that has allowed me to realise my maximum potential,” he concluded. And I’ve given it my all throughout the last 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success, on or off the field.
“It is tough for me to write this, but here it is: I am no longer going to make that competitive commitment.” “I have enjoyed my NFL career, and it is now time for me to devote my time and energy to other things that deserve my attention,” he wrote.
However, just a week after making his big statement, Brady stated on his SiriusXM show “Let’s Go!” that he might not be done with football just yet.
“I’m just going to take it as it comes,” Brady told co-host, Jim Gray. “I believe that is the greatest way to express it, and I don’t believe anything, you know, you never say never.” At the same time, I know I’m very, very happy with my decision. I’m not sure how I’ll feel six months from now; [whether] it will change, it probably won’t. But I try to make the best judgement I can in the situation like I did last week.”
