What The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Means in Detail (Maybe)

While eager fans wait for next May, the new Zelda video introduced a fresh title and provided plenty to ponder.

The release date and the game’s exact title were revealed in a new teaser released by Nintendo for the upcoming Zelda game. On May 12, 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released. But like any good trailer, it also provided fans with plenty of material for speculations and hidden information. We’re here to explain each one to you.

First off, there are numerous lore references throughout the stone carvings that make up the majority of the trailer. A Zonai, a prehistoric tribe that was mentioned in Breath of the Wild but not further explored, looks to be one of the monsters. Although we still don’t know exactly what happened to them, Tears of the Kingdom might provide more information. A humanoid tribe is seen fighting Bokoblins and Moblins in the wall carvings, which is likely to be expanded upon in the entire game when we find out more about what happened to the earth.

Fans have hypothesised that the limb we saw in the very first trailer is the one that was specifically featured in this trailer. There are glyphs that most likely represent actual languages, but we don’t yet have the symbols to translate them. Of course, an owl-like figure with seven tears around it hovers over it all. Fans have hypothesised that those might stand for the seven sages, the seven dungeons, or other significant Zelda components. There may be allusions to Zelda herself in one of the carvings as well.

The stone flying beast, which Studio Ghibli fans may identify as a nod to Nausicaa’s glider, was most likely the most striking aspect of the new teaser. Although it’s unclear if the glider is a game feature or a cutscene, it’s an intriguing tease. Naturally, the trailer finishes with the logo, which has a picture of the Master Sword and seems like it has been corrupted. The corrupted Master Sword has previously been the subject of extensive fan speculation, and this further fuels that particular fire.
