The year 2022 has bestowed upon us not just one, but two epic prequels to famous franchises, so anyone in need of a decent fantasy series to dig their teeth into are in for a treat! The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, and House of the Dragon is a forerunner to Game of Thrones.
The prequel to House of the Dragon focuses on the beginning of the fall of House Targaryen, especially Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen war of succession, and is set 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The series, which debuted on August 21, stars a number of notable actors, including Matt Smith and Paddy Considine as Prince Daemon Targaryen and King Viserys I Targaryen, as well as Emma D’Arcy and Milly Alcock as the older and teenage versions of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
In addition, there is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which chronicles significant Second Age events in Middle-earth, including the creation of the Rings of Power. This book is set thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Along with many other crucial characters, the series, which debuted yesterday, September 2, stars Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Maxim Baldry as Isildur, Markella Kavenagh as Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot, and Nazanin Boniadi as Bronwyn.
