Yellowstone and the 1883 spinoff almost didn’t get nominated for Emmys.

Tonight, there won’t be much of a party in the bunkhouse. On Tuesday, when the nominees for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced, there was no room for Yellowstone. The sequel 1883 was nominated three times, but none of them were for major awards. (Two of them were for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and one was for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.)

 

Reno 911! : The Hunt for QAnon, which is up for Outstanding TV Movie, got the biggest nomination of all Paramount Network and Paramount properties. Even Evil was completely shut out for his second season last summer.

 

As Emmy season started, TVLine put the spotlight on Kelly Reilly’s great work as the fiery Beth Dutton in Season 4 of Yellowstone. They talked to her and director Stephen Kay about the scene that broke her character’s heart. (Click here to read the full interview.) Alas, it didn’t work out. At least not this year.

 

Since Yellowstone was a huge hit for the Paramount Network, Sheridan has made two prequels for Paramount+: 1883 and 1923. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will play the main roles in both of these movies, which will come out in December. (More details here.) Sheridan also co-created Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown, which has been picked up for a second season. The streaming service is also working on a spinoff of 1883, which will continue the story of David Oyelowo’s lawman Bass Reeves, and a show called 6666, which will be about the Texas ranch where Jimmy, a fan favorite from Yellowstone, works as a hand and where his fiancee Emily works as a vet tech. Jefferson White and Kathryn Kelly will both be back for Season 5 of Yellowstone, though. Kelly has even been made a series regular.

 

Season 5 will have 14 episodes, split into two groups of seven. It will be the longest season the show has ever had. It will start on Sunday, November 13, at 8/7c, and then a special simulcast of another Sheridan drama, Paramount+’s Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, will air at the same time. As if that wasn’t enough, Sheridan is also working on Lioness with Zoe Saldana and Land Man with Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton at Paramount. Oh, and Sheridan also comes back as horse trader Travis Wheatly on Yellowstone.

 

On Monday, September 12, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, NBC will show the Primetime Emmys live.
