YouTube Music’s “Ask Music” AI-generated custom radio stations are now more prominent in the Android app.
Previously, the Home feed displayed an “Ask for music any way you like” card. There’s now an “Ask for music” carousel, which differs from existing ones, that shows example prompts. It appears just below the “Radios for you” carousel.
These refresh throughout the day. The 10 we’re seeing include: Deep-voice singers, New releases, Chillwave, British rock classics, Intense orchestral music, Deep cuts, Indie rock, Baroque pop, Minimalist electronic, and Morning routine.
Old vs. new
Tapping on the small card will start the radio/playlist after a moment. It remains interesting how Google’s example prompts are so short, with Ask Music support longer ones.
There’s also the “Ask any way you like” text field that immediately takes you to the fullscreen chat UI and opens the keyboard. A microphone is also available for voice input.
Compared to before, this design does a good job of highlighting what you can input, while it’s faster to enter what’s on your mind.
As of DecemberAsk Music is available in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia on Android for Premium subscribers. It’s coming to iOS and more countries “soon.”
