LA-based artist zzzahara will release their new album ‘Spiral Your Way Out’ on January 10th.
The Mexican-Filipino artist made a deep impression with their debut album ‘Tender’, released last year. Since then, a relationship fell to pieces, and in the aftermath zzzahara felt as though they were left alone to patch together their life.
As ever, music became a vehicle for their emotions, and after hitting “emotional rock bottom” as zzzahara puts it, their songwriting became more focussed, intense, and angry.
It’s these feelings which frame new album ‘Spiral Your Way Out’. Set to be released via Lex Records on January 10th, each song on the project feels vital, and wholly true to their emotions.
“I was going through such a tough time, but I felt like I didn’t have anyone to reach out to,” zzzahara says. “When I finally sat down in the studio, I just had all this fucking anger – towards that person for treating me badly, but mostly towards myself for not walking away. I think in that situation I just kind of let things be, and I was mad at myself for letting myself isolate for so long and never putting my foot down. In the end, I just took it all out on the record.”
New track ‘Ghosts’ is a disorienting blast of emotion, with zzzahara attempting to make sense of their immediate past.
