Anna Erhard's 'Botanical Garden' Is An Indie-Pop Phantasia

Flaunt Weeekly

With a wicked lyrical instinct…

Berlin based talent Anna Erhard has shared new album ‘Botanical Garden’ in full.

The Swiss-born artist is now a key part of the German capital’s music underground, with her waspish lyrical wit aligned to some neat indie pop songwriting.

Out now, ‘Botanical Garden’ is succinct – 10 tracks, 30 minutes – but it doesn’t shrink from big ideas. Aiming to locate lessons from the everyday, her surrealist techniques put you in mind of Jonathan Richman’s minimalism, or even Courtney Barnett’s subtle warmth.

“The songs I wrote in the beginning were really big and universal”, she noted recently. “Now I feel I condense my writing to the smallest possible thing, almost”.

Each song on ‘Botanical Garden’ has its own flavour, with Anna Erhard darting between snappy guitar songs, and wonky electronics worthy of Laurie Anderson’s unlikely pop crossover.

Anna adds: “All the songs are kind of about comparing and rating somehow, that was really a big topic on this album”.

Out now, you can catch Anna Erhard on tour in the UK next month, including a show at London’s Oslo on October 11th.

Tune in now.
