At the Winter Garden Theatre, Beetlejuice made its Broadway debut on March 28, 2019, and it premiered there on April 25. Eight Tony awards were given for its first performance. Following the COVID-19 shutdown, the show returned to Broadway—and brought the largest sandworm on the Broadway stage and the Netherworld back with it, re-opening April 8, 2022 at the Marqus Theatre with Tony nominee Alex Brightman reprising the role of the titular poltergeist opposite newcomer Elizabeth Teeter (The Crucible, The Audience) as Lydia Deetz.
Along with Brightman, the following actors made their comebacks to the cast: Kerry Butler, David Josefsberg, Adam Dannheisser, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Kelvin Moon Loh, Danny Rutigliano, and Dana Steingold. As Miss Argentina and Maxine Dean/Juno, respectively, Michelle Aravena (A Bronx Tale, Rocky), Zonya Love (The Color Purple), Kate Bailey, Will Blum, Ryan Breslin, Natalie Charle Ellis, Brooke Engen, Eric Anthony Johnson, Andrew Kober, Elliott Mattox, Mateo Melendez, Ramone Owens, Commodore C. Primous III, Nevada Riley, and Graham Stevens round out the cast.
Elizabeth Teeter, the star of Beetlejuice, explains how to get into character.
The narrative of Lydia Deetz, an odd and unique kid whose life is changed when she encounters a recently murdered couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a thing for stripes, is told in Beetlejuice, which is based on Tim Burton’s cult classic movie. The double-crossing ghost Beetlejuice unleashes chaos when Lydia summons him to scare away anyone with a pulse.
