Jinkies! In the most recent Scooby-Doo! film, Velma falls in love with a female convict, and fans couldn’t be happier.
In a clip from Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! that is now trending on social media, Velma (voiced by Kate Micucci) is shown falling madly in love with Coco Diablo (Myrna Velasco), the brilliant head of a “notorious costume crime syndicate.”
Velma is definitely feeling things based on the swell of the music, the hazy glasses, and her sudden inability to talk.
In the second clip, Velma and Daphne (Grey DeLisle) are discussing Coco, and Daphne remarks, “I didn’t know convicted felons were your thing.” Although Velma makes an effort to be cool (“Type? Me? Please!”), her feelings for Coco are once again very clear.
Lest there be any doubt, Velma eventually caves: “Oh, who am I kidding? Daphne, I’m crushing like crazy! What shall I do? What should I say?

For many years, Velma’s sexual orientation has been a source of debate within the Scooby-Doo! fan community. Despite the fact that over the years, the character has generally been coupled with transient male love partners, there has always been subtext — and much more than subtext — implying her lack of interest.
Even Tony Cervone, a producer on the Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated television series (2010–2013), acknowledged that Velma was intended to be LGBT in the programme. In 2020, he posted on Instagram, “We made our objectives as plain as we could ten years ago.” “Most of our fans understood it. I advise those who didn’t to take a closer look.
Additionally, James Gunn has been open about his original ideas for the character. He wrote the live-action films Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).
James Gunn has said Velma was explicitly gay in his initial ‘SCOOBY DOO’ script:
“The studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).
