Rockstar Games’ upcoming GTA 6 has seen a significant leak, showing footage of an early build of the release and a tonne of incomplete gameplay. This could be one of the biggest gaming bombshells ever. While this latest leak appears to support some previously conjectured details, it also lessens all the pleasant surprises the game’s creators had in store for gamers. Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated and talked-about video games ever made. Long before its existence was ever verified, rumours regarding the game’s plot, characters, and release date began to circulate.
Up until recently, Rockstar Games kept the entire project incredibly under wraps, and there was little anything we knew or had seen of the game. However, all of that has changed suddenly, due to more than 90 videos and screenshots that have appeared on GTA Forums. A user going by the handle “teapotuberhacker” recently posted an enormous quantity of GTA 6 footage to the forum, claiming it was taken from a test build of the game that used “GTA 5 and 6 source code and assets.”
The leaked screenshots and video footage have already taken over YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and other social media forums. They corroborate some of the details from earlier GTA 6 leaks, such as the game’s multiple playable characters—including a female protagonist—and the setting, which appears to be a Vice City-style Miami. The veracity of the stolen images and video snippets was confirmed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who said, “Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s enormous Grand Theft Auto VI breach is absolutely legitimate. Of course, the footage is incomplete and premature. One of the largest leaks in the history of video games, and a nightmare for Rockstar Games.
The videos’ veracity was hotly debated online despite claims to the contrary from a number of sources. However, a matter of days later, Rockstar Games formally used Twitter to express its dissatisfaction with the revelation, providing the real confirmation.
Rockstar Games stated on Twitter that they recently experienced a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded sensitive material from our systems, including early development footage for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto. At this time, neither a disruption of our live game services nor a long-term impact on the progress of our ongoing initiatives are anticipated.
“We are incredibly disappointed that any information about our upcoming game has been disclosed to you all in this manner. We’ll continue working on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game as scheduled, and we’re just as committed as ever to giving our players an experience that truly exceeds their expectations. When the next game is ready, we will appropriately introduce it to you and provide another update to everyone. We wish to express our gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support throughout this time.
We can witness a playable female character named Lucia pillaging a restaurant and kidnapping NPCs in one of the leaked movies. You can see a lot of placeholder messages like “Time Until Cops Dispatched” and dialogue texts like “Jason: GENERIC CURSE TO SELF” because the video is from an early build of the game. Another video appears to confirm that the game would be set in a fictitious version of Miami by showing a playable character riding the “Vice City Metro” train. Another video shows a conversation taking place by the pool, and we can overhear comments such, “Oh yeah, he’s dead, is he? Similarly, there is a nation called Finland. Other videos show shooting as well as escaping from Vice City police.
Many of the GTA 6 YouTube videos already have takedown requests from Take-Two Interactive, and many of these videos now state, “This video is no longer available owing to a copyright claim by Take-Two Interactive.” However, a few are still accessible online.
All of the leaked videos and photographs are unmistakably from an alpha form of the game, which appears to be an incomplete development build that the developers used to test some aspects of the game. GTA 6 is still a ways off and probably won’t be released before late 2024 or early 2025, despite the fact that we don’t know how old this footage is or have confirmation of how far along Rockstar is in development. However, a variety of details on the setting and characters of the game are confirmed by these recently leaked videos and screenshots.
