American songwriter Lesser Jay has shared his new single ‘Alarm Clock’.
The artist made his bow last year, sharing a furry of ace singles. The one-off drops built into an over-arching world, with Lesser Jay fusing the melodic impact of Hot Chip, say, with lyrics that lean on a slightly more open, humorous version of LCD Soundsystem.
Based in Colorado, Lesser Jay’s studio is a hub for fresh ideas, and he leads from the front on his potent new single.
Out now, ‘Alarm Clock’ has a neat, tongue-in-cheek feel, but the humour is used to accentuate his carefully considered point. As much as its offbeat, ‘Alarm Clock’ has a heart of gold, building to that neat chorus, one that will stay lodged in your head for days.
Lesser Jay comments…
This song is about that moment where you know you need to get out of bed and do things, and you really want to, but somehow that seems impossibly hard. Overall, that feeling is completely absurd but it happens to me all the time. I guess it could be depression or existential crisis but it seems like a feeling a lot of people have, a resistance to do things that are good for us.
I live in Colorado where there are lots of beautiful walks and hikes close by. I imagined a scenario for the song where I planned to meet a friend in the morning for a walk (my friend Lucas who is in the music video) and I am fighting the urge to just cancel and go back to sleep, even though I actually do want to hang out and I know we’ll have fun.
Tune in now.
