Select 22 colours for the upper door and 19 colours for the lower door.
IFA 2022 (Europe’s answer to CES) begins tomorrow, which means wacky new appliances and home products. LG is kicking things off with the MoodUP refrigerator, which has color-changing LED door panels and offers something different for your kitchen than the usual white or brushed metal.
You can select from 22 colours for the upper door panel and 19 colours for the lower door panel by using LG’s ThinkQ app or by tapping on the door. Alternatively, you can let it choose from a variety of colour themes such as ‘Season,’ ‘Place,’ ‘Mood,’ and ‘Pop,’ which represent natural colours or “a feeling of wellbeing through the use of soft, soothing colours,” according to LG’s press release.
If you leave the door open for too long, the panels will blink repeatedly, or they will flash a welcome when someone approaches. The freezer door will also glow brighter at night “to assist midnight snackers in finding and opening the door.” (Never stop, LG.) With the LED panels turned off, it offers a grey and white combination for a more traditional look.
It also includes a Bluetooth speaker that connects to mobile devices or PCs. You can have it play songs from LG’s Music Collection playlist that match the colour theme, or you can have the LED panels change colours to match the music. The idea is to add “a sense of liveliness and fun” to your kitchen by apparently transforming it into a discotheque.
The refrigerator itself has few details, but it appears that LG has both a wide, four-door model and a regular single-door model with two freezer compartments. Both models appear to be side by side in the top image.
It also has improved voice recognition and WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Several press photos appear to show LG’s “InstaView” camera/display technology as well, though LG did not mention it in the news release. There is no word on pricing, but LG will debut the “Dios Object Collection MoodUP” refrigerators at IFA 2022 in Berlin on Friday.
