Masayasu Ito, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s representative director and deputy president, will step down on October 1, and current director and deputy president Lin Tao will take his place, the company announced.
Kiichiro Urata, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s head of Japan Asia partner development and relations, will also be named company director.
Ito oversaw Sony Interactive Entertainment’s hardware engineering and operations and was instrumental in the development of various PlayStation hardware over the years, including the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR. He has been with Sony Interactive Entertainment since April 2008, and previously worked for Sony Corporation for nearly 11 years.
According to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the situation, Ito’s resignation is due to reaching retirement age, and he will resign from Sony Group as a whole at the same time. (Update 1:23 a.m.: A Sony representative told Bloomberg that Ito’s retirement is due to his age.)
